ABOUT DARRYL

Me (2).jpg

I love the arts. All kinds and genres of art. I have since I was a kid and that is why I started creating my own artwork. My appreciation of what others created inspired me  to follow in their shoes as best I can. Although I have had a successful business career, it is  creating art that brings balance to my life.

I am a self taught painter working mostly in watercolors but dabbling in acrylics when the subject calls for it. For me, painting is fun. It relaxes me and I can get lost in the colors and process of putting paint on paper. I have participated in some shows and received an award or two but that doesn't really matter to me. What matters is the peace I find when I have a brush in my hand.

My father taught me how to work with and respect wood.  I design and construct each piece based on the interests of the recipient.  The tactile nature of this media, the smell of a freshly cut piece of cherry or creating a solution for a challenging fabrication problem are what keeps me in my shop.

Music is where I have received formal training.  I studied as a classical tenor at Boston Conservatory and then at Westminster Choir College and I have had the privilege of performing under some of the greatest conductors in the world (Bernstein, Boulez, Mehta, Ozawa and many more).  When I was not singing, I was composing music. My composition life has continued, on and off, throughout the years writing primarily vocal music. Influenced by Anglican Choral and Jazz styles, my works reflect my own unique perspective.

I hope you enjoy the various offerings on display here. These pieces have brought me joy while I was creating them so I hope they do the same when you see and/or hear them.

I rarely take on commissions and am not trying to use this platform to sell the works that are not already privately owned. Having said that, if you see something you really like and would like to have, let me know. The originals or high quality prints of the paintings may be available  and I might consider the challenge of building furniture or creating a musical work for a special occasion.

Thanks for visiting my site. Support the arts and enjoy life.
